The green rose is one of the less common roses. The history of the lettuce-colored rosebud began in 1782. A Dutch scientist and botanist named Meyer randomly grafted a cuttings of a white rose onto an old stump of a thorny blackthorn. The result of this breeding experiment was a rose bush whose buds had a delicate green color of petals.
The green rose was first established in Europe in 1856 and was introduced by the British nursery Bembridge and Harrison.
